Server room – what is it, how does it work and why can your company benefit from it?

In a world where everything is moving online, data is becoming more than just files. It is your capital, the loss of which would expose you to serious consequences. It’s not enough to invest in a fast computer and fiber optic cable. You need something more stable. A place that is designed so that your data is always available, safe and protected from failures or external attacks. A server room is just such a place.
But specifically: what is a server room?
A server room is a specially prepared space where servers and other IT equipment work – from switches and routers (key network components) to disk arrays to cloud and hosting systems. But it’s not just a room full of lights emitting beacons. It’s a highly specialized environment that makes sure everything works regardless of external factors. So you can be sure that your data will be safe and available whenever you need it.
Why not keep servers in the office?
Many entrepreneurs still keep servers in separate rooms: basements, locked cabinets or small rooms without fire protection and sensors to increase the security of network operations. Unfortunately, such a makeshift server room rarely meets the requirements of modern equipment. It lacks:
Advanced security systems (physical protection and procedures),
fire protection systems,
independent power sources,
Redundant telecommunications connections,
Control of environmental conditions (temperature, humidity),
In practice, all it takes is one power failure, one flood or one intrusion for a company to lose access to data, services and customers. To avoid such a scenario, professional data centers – such as those we offer at ITH – have been developed.
How does a professional server room work?
Wondering what a server room looks like? It can be likened to a technology bunker. Everything is designed to ensure maximum service availability, data security and fault tolerance. See how a server room works in practice:
Redundant power supply (2N model)
Each device in the ITH server room is hooked up to two independent power supply paths. In case of failure of one, the other immediately takes over the work. In addition, we use UPS power supplies, which protect against voltage spikes and guarantee power backup in a short period of time, and we also have generator sets with a supply of fuel for several days – hidden under the building. That’s why our data center can operate uninterruptedly regardless of the situation outside.
Precision air conditioning and temperature control
Temperature and humidity in a server room must be constant and precisely controlled. IT equipment works best within a certain temperature range – overheating shortens its life and leads to errors. That’s why in our data centers we use engineered floors, through which cool air is pumped into the so-called cold aisles, where cabinets with servers stand. We ensure continuous air circulation and constant humidity, and constantly monitor the conditions in which server equipment is stored.
Fiber optic links and internet access
Telecommunications infrastructure is another important point. We provide high bandwidth (even above 100 Gbps), low latency and high uptime. This ensures that your servers always have access to the Internet and can communicate with the cloud, employees, clients or other systems.

What do you find in ITH’s server rooms?
We provide more than storing servers in racks. Our server rooms are a team of services, tools and people who will take care of your IT resources from A to Z:
Co-location
You can place your equipment (rack units, entire racks) with us and use the full infrastructure without having to build your own server room.
Dedicated and shared hosting
If you do not have your own equipment, we provide ready-made solutions with full support.
Public and private cloud
You can connect your servers to the ITH cloud and scale resources when you need them.
Full technical support
Our team is on alert 24/7, and our customers have access to a “remote hands” service, or on-site technical support.
High standards of physical security
Access control, advanced monitoring systems, dual authorization.
Where are our server rooms located?
ITH has data centers across the country:
Warsaw,
Cracow,
Katowice,
Wroclaw,
Gdansk.
In each of these cities, we offer different variants of server space – from single units, to entire racks, to full colocation modules.
Who is the data center for?
Our server rooms serve start-ups, software houses, e-commerce stores, as well as large corporations that need uninterrupted access to their services (e.g. e-commerce platforms), process sensitive data (e.g. financial, medical sectors) or develop their own cloud infrastructure,
We don’t force you to sign multi-year contracts. We offer a flexible approach based on business scalability. We provide full IT infrastructure (colocation, internet, cloud and backup), so you don’t have to look for several providers. With us, you know what you are paying for. We don’t charge additional costs and always present clear rules of cooperation.
Bottom line: the server room is the foundation of your security.
A server room is not just an option for tech giants. It’s a solution for any business that wants to operate stably, quickly and securely. With it, you protect your data and get professional technical support. And with ITH you get a partner who understands technology, but most importantly understands people.
If you have questions – write or call us. We’ll be happy to show you what a professional data center looks like from the inside and tailor a solution to your company.

FAQ – the most common questions about server rooms and data center services
What is the difference between a professional server room and a company’s own server room?
An in-house server room is often a makeshift solution that does not guarantee optimal conditions for servers, such as constant temperature, adequate humidity, redundant power supply or cabling organization. Professional data centers, such as ITH, provide all these elements as standard.
What are the main tasks of a server room?
Their task is to keep servers running, ensure data security, stability of Internet connections and support data center services such as colocation, hosting, backup or cloud.
What are data center services and who uses them?
Data center services are a set of IT solutions including server colocation, virtual machine commissioning, data storage or technical support. They are used by companies of all sizes – from start-ups to corporations processing sensitive data and managing thousands of servers.
What is the role of servers in modern business?
Servers are the operational center of any company – they support applications, store data, ensure the operation of online services and communications. Their failure can paralyze the entire business, so it is worth providing them with a professional working environment.
