6 ways to adapt employees to work with new technologies

New technologies are playing an increasingly important role in companies in almost all industries. Using different systems and software requires the right approach. How to improve employee productivity and how to motivate them when working with new technologies?
In recent years, and especially in 2020, our style of work, communication, entertainment has changed quite a bit. A very large part of life has moved online. The effects of the pandemic show that you need to be open to change. However, the digital style of work is not easy for all employees to implement. New technologies are developing all the time and causing changes in the work environment.
New technologies. How to adopt employees?
Modern business is supported by big data, advanced mobile and cloud solutions, digitization, automation of processes, AI and advancing robotization. The team will work well in this environment if directed properly. How?
- Implementation of training procedures as to new technologies. Implement a range of training systems, from written instructions to live video training, to accommodate different work styles and preferences. Let the employee make sure he or she understands how each process works.
- Acceptance of failures. Set ambitious goals, but also leave room for failures and the ability to learn from them. It’s a good idea to match the employee to the type of duties performed and to the team beforehand, but also keep in mind that focusing only on results and striving for perfection will quickly demotivate the team. Introduce an annual evaluation of employees’ skills and determine what it will look like.
- Ask “why” and share the answer. If you want to make some kind of change, such as introducing new software in the company, inform the team about the purpose of the change and the expected expectations. Ask their opinion and implement them in the whole process. Then you will adopt new technologies in the company faster.
- Implement remote learning. Offer content in a variety of formats, adapting to the circumstances. This can include several tactics, such as online and in-person training, on-demand instructional videos, qualified employees acting as tutors for other employees, or a help center that is available for questions after training.
- Assign leaders for employees. If you’re planning to make a big change whose effects carry a lot of detail, assign tutors. Training is often generic, and employees will need help converting knowledge into concrete solutions in the workplace before they have sufficiently mastered the technology.
- Encourage employees to use new technologies creatively. Show them the possibilities and motivate them to explore new solutions. They can then become a kind of change promoter who learns new software in depth. And this serves as a resource for other employees who will also learn and use the technology.
