According to estimates, the 5G network will bring huge economic gains. This will be reflected in money, jobs, and will also affect the lives of consumers, functioning in society. 5G technology stirs up a lot of excitement. Will it work well for business?
Polish companies are becoming increasingly computerized. The European Commission estimates that 5G will create 2 million jobs in Europe. But what about fiber-optic internet? Will it find application in business?
What is a 5G network?
It’s a fifth-generation telecommunications network that will enable data transmission speeds fifty or a hundred times faster than those of 4G so far. It will also be possible to connect a very large number of devices to the 5G network, and it will find applications in IoT, such as telemedicine, smart city design and autonomous vehicles. What’s more, the very low latency of data transmission will accelerate business development and data flow.
5G technology: what is data transfer all about?
However, the operation of 5G technology will not be possible without fiber optics, because the cellular network is not only masts, but also other infrastructure elements responsible for data connection and data transfer between providers and users. Thus, a link is needed between base stations and the backbone network.
5G and fiber optics
5G technology is expected to enable data transfer at speeds of 20Gbps download and 10Gbps upload, which has not yet been possible. 5G will be based on electromagnetic wave action. New types of antennas will be built on current BTS stations. Each base station in a 5G network must have a connection to a fiber-optic cable in order to be able to develop such fast speeds and network capacity. 5G will operate on 3 bands:
- 700 MHz frequency,
- 3.4-3.8 GHz
- 26 GHz.
Plans for 5G deployment are divided into phases, but there are no details of the process yet. So far, South Korea is using the technology. According to the Ministry of Digitization, work is underway to measure the electromagnetic field coming from telecommunications installations.
Business: 5G or fiber internet?
When it comes to telecommunications networks, the technological basis of network infrastructure is fiber optic cable because of its durability, functionality and energy efficiency. This is a technology that is durable, fiber optic cabling can last for decades, as confirmed by economists and engineers. It’s also proof of innovation, competitiveness of the company. What about 5G technology, then? It will work well for the Internet of Things and for selected consumers.
