Fixed Internet-what it is, what kind to choose and how to connect it
In this day and age, smartphones and tablets are excellent machines for browsing the Internet. This has happened thanks to the advent of LTE networks, followed shortly after by 5G. With 5G connection speeds potentially reaching 20Gbps, it has made it possible to watch HD movies or play an online game virtually anywhere you have network coverage.
This does not mean, however, that the Internet of landlines has had its glory days. Quite the contrary – more and more people want a fast and permanent connection to the network. Both companies and private users express an increasing desire for a fixed Internet connection, as it has many advantages over a mobile connection. So what makes fixed lines increasingly popular?
Fixed Internet-what is it?
Both fixed and mobile Internet provide access to data, networks, applications, as well as the ability to work remotely, play online or shop from the home couch. How the Internet works can affect what capabilities they actually provide. So it’s worth being aware of all the advantages and disadvantages that the two solutions provide. Landline Internet is a connection that is brought directly to a particular building or room – this mainly refers to apartments, offices, houses and factories. A fixed Internet connection operates on a permanent basis, which means that it gives us the ability to send and receive data at any time. Fixed Internet is one that is delivered in the traditional way, i.e. via copper cables, but also one that is connected to the network via a fiber-optic link. Fixed link can also be based on radio technology. One of the rarest and most expensive solutions is satellite Internet. It allows direct data transmission using satellites that orbit the Earth. The different technologies contribute to the fact that Internet connections can differ in their parameters. The highest data transfer speeds are offered by fiber-optic links.
It is important to remember that fixed Internet brought to the destination by means of links, such as fiber optics or cables, does not restrict the user to use it only with a device that is connected to it by wire. These fixed lines are most often used together with WiFi-routers, which give the opportunity to use the Internet without being directly connected to wires. Among the most important advantages of fixed Internet are its high bandwidth and stability of its connection – they are independent of the weather conditions outside. Landline Internet providers most often do not apply to its recipients limits on the transmission and selection of data through it.
Mobile links such as LTE and 5G operate on the basis of radio communications with base stations. Such networks transmit data at high speeds, but using them comes with significant limitations. One of the main limitations is their range. The radio waves on which the 5G network is based have high frequencies, with a range of only a few hundred meters. A major problem is stability, since the data transmission rate of a wireless network, often depends on terrain and atmospheric conditions, as well as on the number of devices connecting to a given base station at the same time. Mobile connections are most often asymmetric links-their data sending speed is many times lower than their receiving speed.
Landline internet- which one to choose?
The availability of solutions in an area contributes greatly to which fixed-line Internet is the best choice. However, in many cases, the best choice turns out to be fixed Internet, which is based on fiber-optic links, why? These lines allow, to achieve speeds that exceed 1Gbps with low latency, they are available in most Polish cities. It is worth bearing in mind that the connection of fiber-optic Internet is of great importance when it comes to its final speed.
How to connect the fixed Internet?
In order to connect the landline Internet, it is necessary to contact the provider that is located in the area. Once the building is already equipped with the appropriate cabling, the next step is to install a socket or cable. In a situation where there is no suitable cabling, it may be necessary to make an additional connection to the fiber-optic network. The next step is to fix the modem. It is also popular to install a router, for the reason that it allows you to use a fixed connection via a WiFi network.
