Microwave motion detector | Application and mode of operation

The security of a company is a priority, and cameras and alarms are a fundamental pillar of protection. At ITH, we are well aware that the mere installation of these devices is only the beginning, and the real challenge lies in the intelligent interconnection of all system components. One of them is the microwave motion sensor. What distinguishes this device, how does it work and where does it find its application?
How does a microwave motion sensor work?
A microwave sensor is an inconspicuous device that uses technology based on electromagnetic waves. The device sends out waves that reflect off the environment and return to the receiver. If something moves (even through a thin wall, glass or door), the waves return distorted and then the sensor detects movement. So you could say it works like radar, but with the difference that it doesn’t need a rotating antenna
What distinguishes a modern microwave motion sensor?
First of all, precision. Modern devices are highly sensitive and can detect even the best-hidden presence if the object is within motion detection range. In addition, low radiation makes the device completely harmless to users.

Where does this all fit into ITH’s operations?
At ITH, we design physical security, alarm, access control and CCTV systems that work perfectly together. Our solutions(from Satel and Roger, among others) allow you to create a tailor-made alarm system that works autonomously or integrated with other systems – such as KNX, video surveillance or access control.
With microwave sensors:
The alarm system works faster and more precisely,
cameras can only start recording when something is really happening,
LED lighting turns on only when needed – saving electricity.
Microwave motion sensors: we’ll install, program, and take care of them
ITH is a technology partner that will study your needs, prepare the design and perform the installation (including cabling). We have been working on demanding projects for years – from fiber optics to smart buildings. We know how to bundle everything into one functional whole. A microwave motion sensor is just one component of the system, but it reacts faster than the human eye and feels more than a PIR detector.
Trust the experience: ITH is the partner for you!
Looking for a reliable, clever and effective way to detect motion? A microwave sensor is the way to improve your company’s security. And if you want it to work together with the rest of your system, contact us.
FAQ: frequently asked questions about microwave motion detectors
Can a microwave sensor really automate light completely?
Yes. When he sees movement, he turns on the light. When the motion disappears, the light goes out. No need to remember the switch. It’s a completely automated light that just works.
Where is the best place to install it?
On a wall, ceiling, in a box, or even in drywall – the sensor works even through thin materials like glass or plastic. As long as it’s not hidden behind metal or a cabinet.
What can be set in it?
Thanks to the potentiometers (i.e. small knobs), you can adjust the detection range, light duration or light intensity sensitivity. The user has full control over when the sensor should respond and how long the lamp should be lit.
How much is the power of the motion sensor?
It depends on the specific model, but the standard supports several hundred watts. It’s calmly enough to power our lamp or a whole row of LED fixtures in the office or on the hall.
What happens when no one moves?
The light stops. When the movement disappears, the sensor cuts off the power source, so nothing lights up unnecessarily. This is not only convenient, but also very economical.
Does the microwave motion sensor also work after dark?
Yes! Some models have a twilight sensor, that is, they detect not only motion, but also whether it is dark enough to turn on the light. Great for outdoors, such as at the entrance to your home or office.
Is every microwave sensor suitable for every lamp?
Most microwave sensors are designed to work with typical lamps, including energy-saving ones. You just need to select products with compatible parameters, but this will be taken care of by ITH professionals if you decide on a complex installation.
