The music service, which is breaking records for popularity around the world, will offer audio in a lossless format. Spotify HIFI will be available later in 2021.

The news was announced during Spotify’s “Stream On” virtual event, when the company’s founder and CEO revealed the direction in which the platform will evolve. Spotify HIFI “will deliver music in CD-quality, lossless audio format to your Spotify Connect-enabled device and speakers, meaning fans will experience greater depth and clarity when listening to their favorite tracks.” The service’s creators have surpassed Tidal and Amazon.

Spotify HIFI

HIFI is a lossless level of streaming. Until now, Spotify has been doing tests of higher quality streaming. It now intends to introduce this service, but only in selected markets. Pricing is not yet known. As one might assume, higher quality streaming is one of the key requests from customers. The lossless format is 1440 kbps.

Spotify’s current top audio speed is 320 kbps.

Spotify in new markets

The service will arrive in 85 new markets in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America. Spotify is not yet supported in many countries and will reach, among others: Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Ivory Coast. Expansion into new markets involves the introduction of 36 language versions of the application.

Podcasts on Spotify

Application developers are emphasizing the podcast format. This market is growing rapidly, with more and more audiences wanting to listen to interesting audio content. New broadcasts, such as those of President Barrack Obama and Bruce Springsteen, Ava DuVernay and the DC Comics label, may help to keep the trend going. The creators of the service also intend to make it easier to search for new podcasts, so it will soon be possible to find them not only by name, but also by topic.

On the service, users will listen to classic and video podcasts, which will be much easier to monetize. Creators, on the other hand, will get new tools to monetize their work and gain new forms of reaching listeners.
