What are the key elements of ITH infrastructure?

What does the operator infrastructure look like? Let’s start with the network equipment!

The foundation of any carrier network is high-end network equipment. The network architecture at ITH is based on the following elements:

• Switches (switches) – manage local network traffic, ensuring efficient transmission of data across network segments.

• Access routers – are responsible for routing traffic between different networks, including between ITH and the global Internet. At ITH, routers are strategically located in Krakow and Warsaw, where the main interconnection points with other operators are located.

• Terminal devices (CPE) – installed at customers’ premises. It is through them that it is possible to connect the end user to the entire operator infrastructure.

Each element of this ecosystem is carefully selected and monitored to ensure service stability at the highest level.

Location of telecom operator’s routers and nodes

Operator nodes, i.e. physical locations where ITH meets with other infrastructure operators to exchange traffic, are the basis for the proper operation of the entire system. They are located throughout the Commonwealth, specifically in:

• Krakow

• Katowice

• Warsaw

This is where it takes place:

• Direct data exchange with other operators,

• Equipment colocation – ITH offers space, power and security for in-house and commercial equipment.

ITH has three independent contacts with full internet. This is important for several reasons:

• Full redundancy – failure of one point does not affect the operation of the whole;

• The ability to optimally direct traffic;

• Responding quickly to potential problems.

In addition: contacts with popular traffic exchange nodes (IX)

ITH also has contacts with local traffic exchange points, such as:

These are called Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), where operators exchange traffic without the need for worldwide infrastructure.

This is very important from the point of view of the user, because such contacts:

• They shorten the path taken by the data.

• Reduce latency (lower ping).

• Enhance transmission security.

An example? When an ITH customer wants to connect to a user at another local operator, the data doesn’t have to wander halfway around the world – it goes directly to its destination. ITH is not a lone player – it is an operator that works with about 150 local ISPs, with which it has:

• direct physical contacts – not only in large cities, but also in smaller towns,

• The ability to exchange traffic instantly – resulting in faster internet and less strain on main links.

It’s also a guarantee of greater stability – if there’s a problem somewhere, the data can be immediately rerouted through another route.

Network security – protection against attacks

Every element of the ITH infrastructure is properly secured. It is very important to protect against DDoS attacks, i.e. those that involve flooding the network with huge amounts of unnecessary traffic.

ITH implements:

• DDoS attack detection and mitigation systems that operate in real time.

• Solutions that eliminate the attack before it reaches the customer – in most cases, the user does not even notice that something is happening.

Network redundancy and reliability

All key infrastructure components are duplicated or triplicated – from links to devices to points of contact. As a result:

• It is possible to switch traffic immediately in case of an emergency,
